The fall seasons came to an end for Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s tennis teams last week while the college’s soccer teams continued to make strides in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Men’s/Women’s Tennis
The Wildcat men closed out a 1-5 fall season on Tuesday with a 6-3 nonconference loss against Lycoming College. Will DeMarco, of Glen Mills, at No. 3 singles; Joe Morrin, of Morrisville, at No. 5 singles, and the No. 3 doubles team of Ethan Rosler, of Bloomsburg, and Austin Adams, of Center Valley, were winners for Penn College. Hosting Lycoming College on Thursday, the Penn College women fell, 9-0, to end 0-7 during their fall season. The spring season begins in March for the men and April for the women.
“For both teams, we finished the season much stronger than we started. Each player got consistently better with a lot of practice,” coach John Machak said.
“For the men, it was a learning experience because we had three freshmen in the starting lineup. But those three will be the core of our team going forward and I’m very optimistic about what they’ll achieve,” the second-year coach continued.
“For the ladies, we had some freshmen and first-time players make big strides. Overall, they played well against some great competition. In the spring, we'll get back some players, which make us very competitive.
“A lot of the players will be hitting over at the (West Branch Tennis) club during the winter, which will keep any rust off and keep them all tuned up. We should get out to a fast start to the (spring) season and finish by making playoffs,” Machak added.
Men’s Soccer
In nonconference action at King’s College on Tuesday, Penn College lost, 4-0. Kings led in shots, 12-5 (6-1 on goal), and in corner kicks, 7-2.
Returning to NEAC play at home on Saturday, the Wildcats blanked Wilson College, 1-0. Ian Scheller, of Sunbury, scored the lone goal at 20:12 as Wilson led in shots, 17-8 (10-4 on goal), and in corner kicks, 5-1.
Facing Lancaster Bible College at home on Sunday in conference play, Penn College lost, 2-1, in double overtime. Mike Gonzalez, of South Williamsport, scored the lone Wildcats goal at 75:53 as they fell to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the NEAC. Lancaster Bible led in shots, 21-10 (9-4 on goal), and in corner kicks, 11-3.
In North Eastern Athletic Association action this week: At Morrisville State College (4-7 overall, 3-2 NEAC through Sunday), noon, Saturday.

Statistically speaking: Goalkeeper Malcolm Kane, of Ardsley, is second in the NEAC with a .804 save percentage and second with 1.19 goals against average. Chris McFarland, of Coatesville, is fifth with 34 shots in the NEAC.

Hosting Wilson College in NEAC action on Saturday, Penn College posted a 4-0 win. Penn College led in shots, 35-2 (14-1 on goal), and in corner kicks, 13-0, while goalkeeper Taylor Gonzalez, of Lititz, held Wilson scoreless.
A defensive NEAC home battle on Sunday against Lancaster Bible College resulted in a scoreless double-overtime tie. Lancaster Bible led in shots, 15-9 (7-4 on goal). Each team had three corner kicks as the Wildcats went to 4-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. Gonzalez had a seven-save day.

Individually, Josh Velez, of Lewistown, led the Wildcats by ending 39th in a field of 271 with a time of 27:36.7. Leading the Penn College women was Sidney Trunzo, of Williamsport, who finished 17th in a field of 225 in 24:19.3.
Women’s Volleyball
On Thursday in nonconference action at King’s College, Penn College fell, 0-3 (5-25, 8-25, 17-25). Corianne Wilson, of Edgewater, led the Wildcats with 17 digs while Sophie Coldsmith, of Gettysburg, was tops with 11 assists.
In a triangular on Saturday at Wells College, Penn College lost to the host team, 0-3 (16-25, 10-25, 21-25), in NEAC play and to Medialle College, 0-3 (17-25, 19-25, 8-25), to drop to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Among the Wildcats leaders against Wells were Felicia Webber, of New Bloomfield, with 16 digs, Coldsmith with 12 assists and Jordyn Smeltzer, of Manchester, with seven kills. Against Medialle, Coldsmith had 11 assists.

Scholar-Athletes Honored
On Monday, it was announced that three Penn College softball players were named Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes. Laycee Clark, of Tyrone; Taylor Krow, of Mechanicsburg; and Amanda Kustanbauter, of Muncy, each earned the honor by having a GPA of at least 3.5 during the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. Krow was a first-team All-NEAC selection last year, while all three players were named NEAC Scholar-Athletes.
Men’s Basketball
Former Penn College men’s basketball player Erik Eichinger, of Villanova, is heading to Ireland to play professional basketball. Eichinger will play for Eanna Basketball Club in Ireland's Super League, the top pro league in the country, and will attend the Dublin School of Business on a full scholarship. Eichinger averaged 13.4 points for the Wildcats during his senior season last year.
