Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Fall Open House at Pennsylvania College of Technology returns Sunday, Oct. 29, with a public invitation to experience a fascinating array of opportunities.

“We are all really excited about our upcoming fall Open House,” said Claire Z. Biggs, coordinator of admissions events/services. “This is such a great day on campus for our prospective students and their families to get a true taste of what Penn College has to offer.”

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can learn more about 100-plus bachelor’s, associate and certificate programs when they visit the college’s main campus and the nearby Lumley Aviation and Schneebeli Earth Science centers. Free shuttles will traverse main campus, and buses will transport visitors to and from the other locations throughout the day.

“Open House is one of those days where the entire campus community – faculty, staff and students – come together to show our pride for Penn College,” Biggs added. “We can’t wait to share our excitement with all of our guests this October!”

Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer an Open House on Sunday, Oct. 29, providing participants the opportunity to explore the college’s hands-on bachelor’s, associate and certificate majors.Among the new majors in the spotlight is an associate degree in brewing and fermentation science, which provides graduates with skills in the science, technology, art and business of brewing and fermentation operations.

Also new this fall is the School of Industrial, Computing & Engineering Technologies’ two-year degree in metal fabrication technology, which furnishes students with well-rounded skills in welding, machining and sheet metal fabrication.

In addition, Open House guests can check out two new bachelor’s degrees in the School of Business & Hospitality: applied innovation, already underway, and entrepreneurial innovation, which begins in Fall 2018. Both majors are keyed to creative collaboration, a building block of success across the spectrum of occupations.

The School of Construction & Design Technologies will preview its degree in concrete science, to be added to the curriculum in Fall 2018. The two-year degree will provide scientific background into the composition of – and applications for – one of the most popular and versatile building materials in the industry.

In addition to exploring exciting academic opportunities in the college’s six academic schools, Open House opens the door onto the vital student-life side of higher education.

Adding to the campuswide buzz this fall is the college’s full membership in NCAA Division III, which, in addition to enhancing opportunities for student-athletes, has been accompanied by a well-received new Wildcat logo and mascot. Penn College fields 15 intercollegiate teams in 10 sports, and coaches will be available during Open House to talk with interested guests.

Faculty, deans, students and alumni – and members of the Admissions, Financial Aid, Residence Life, Dining Services, Athletics and Student Activities staffs – will answer questions and guide visitors.

Also on the schedule are a variety of information sessions, including “It’s a Major Decision” and “Save Time and Money With Dual Enrollment,” that will help prospects carve out a hands-on career path. Dining facilities and The College Store will be open for visitors’ convenience.

Visit the Open House website to register and obtain a personalized guide to the “degrees that work” at one of the nation’s leaders in applied technology education. The site also features a list of campus activities, travel directions, a campus map, a list of available area lodging and a downloadable app to help guests plan their day.

Those unable to attend the Oct. 29 Open House at Penn College may schedule a campus tour or mark their calendars for Spring Open House on Saturday, March 24.
