Thursday, June 15, 2017
A woman with more than 20 years’ experience in workforce-development leadership has been appointed vice president for workforce development at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Shannon M. Munro, who had served as executive director for workforce development and continuing education at the college since 2012, succeeds Tracy L. Brundage, who is leaving to become provost and vice president for academic affairs at Keystone College.
Munro’s appointment was approved Thursday by the Penn College Board of Directors. As vice president, she will oversee all workforce-training and consulting offerings and operations at the college. She will also serve on President’s Council.
Before coming to Penn College, Munro served in a variety of roles for the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corp., including executive director.
She has extensive experience working with companies to deliver impactful training opportunities to their employees in the manufacturing and health care sectors. While focusing her career on solving workforce training and hiring challenges, she has written and managed grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, as well as the Pennsylvania Departments of Labor & Industry, Education, and Community & Economic Development.
“Shannon has a wealth of experience in workforce development; her skills and abilities make her ideally suited for this position,” said Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour. “She has served commendably as executive director of WDCE, and the expertise she has gained in that position will help her succeed in this expanded role. I welcome her contributions.”
Munro holds a Master of Science in geoenvironmental studies from Shippensburg University and a Bachelor of Arts in environmental planning/geography from Bloomsburg University.
Her community affiliations include service on the board of directors for the Industrial Properties Corp., an affiliate of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
Previously, Munro served on boards for PA Partners and the Union County Industrial Development Corp. She also performed volunteer roles for the National Association of Counties, the Pennsylvania ACT Council, Central Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition and the Northumberland County Planning Commission.
