The Central Pennsylvania Section of the American Welding Society has honored a Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member.
Timothy S. Turnbach, instructor of welding, recently received the Howard E. Adkins Memorial Instructor Section Award during a ceremony at the college. The award recognizes “quality instructional performance devoted to the promotion and expansion of welding skills and knowledge.”
Michael S. Sebergandio, AWS District 3 director and a 2003 welding and fabrication engineering technology graduate of the college, presented Turnbach with the award.
Turnbach, of Berwick, has taught full time at the college since 2008. He has worked as a pipefitter and journeyman/welder, consultant/trainer for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center and owner/operator of Pipeworks Unlimited in Berwick.
He obtained journeyman status from the United Association Steamfitters, Pipefitters in Scranton; earned a certificate at Bechtel Welding School; and received a bachelor’s degree in labor health and safety from the National Labor College. Turnbach serves on the welding program’s advisory board at Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School and is a faculty liaison for the Penn College NOW dual-enrollment welding courses offered at the school.
“We are very proud of Tim for receiving this honor. It reflects positively on him and our entire welding department,” said David R. Cotner, dean of industrial, computing and engineering technologies. “Tim is very passionate about welding and preparing the next generation of welders. The award is well-deserved.”
