Artwork created by John M. McKaig, an adjunct faculty member in advertising art at Pennsylvania College of Technology, is being showcased in a number of exhibits.
McKaig is participating in an international juried drawing exhibition at Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center, in Cincinnati. For its fourth annual exhibition of contemporary drawing, the gallery selected 43 works from more than 300 entries from around the world. McKaig’s “Blind Crown,” a large color pencil drawing measuring 36 inches by 72 inches, is among the pieces being showcased in the exhibit, titled “Drawn,” which runs until May 19.
“Blind Crown” has also been selected for the 50th annual “Art of the State” exhibition in The State Museum of Pennsylvania, in Harrisburg. Running June 11 through Sept. 10, the exhibit is recognized as the official, statewide juried competition for Pennsylvania artists. McKaig’s piece was among 109 entries accepted from over 2,200 submitted. Works in craft, painting, photography, sculpture and work on paper will be displayed. An opening reception, free to the public, is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11.
Earlier this year, McKaig’s work was featured in two area exhibits: a solo exhibition in February, titled “Autograph,” at the John Sloan Arts Center at Lock Haven University, and a juried group exhibition of figurative work, held in March at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, in Lemont.
McKaig holds a Master of Fine Arts in printmaking from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. He is a former instructor of drawing, painting and printmaking at Syracuse University, from 1998-2001, and a former instructor of drawing, painting, printmaking and photography at Interlochen Center for the Arts, from 2001-15.
He teaches drawing and art history at Penn College and drawing and photography at Bloomsburg University.
