Penn College Staff to Present at ‘Business Growth Conference’

Thursday, February 16, 2017

Pennsylvania College of Technology personnel are teaming up with MANTEC, a leading consultant to manufacturers in Southcentral Pennsylvania, for four sessions at next month’s fifth Business Growth Conference in Lancaster County.

The conference will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 30 at the Spooky Nook Sports complex, 75 Champ Blvd., Manheim.

Representatives of the college’s Workforce Development & Continuing Education office will each present two sessions of their respective mini-courses: Consultant Steve Quelet will offer an Industrial Arc Flash Safety Workshop from 9 to 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 to 3:30 p.m., and Thomas W. Fry, an industrial technology specialist, will present a Programmable Logic Controllers Workshop during those same time slots.

Quelet will introduce the concepts of recognition and safe work practices for electrical workers operating within an industrial arc flash environment in accordance with National Fire Protection Association guidelines. The instructional format is a unique blend of lecture, presentation and review of case studies in an interactive discussion.

Fry will explain the applications, benefits, types and operational fundamentals of common PLCs. His workshop is designed to improve the on-the-job performance of maintenance technicians with limited training. Foundational concepts are introduced and developed to prepare technicians for more advanced concepts. Simulation software that allows technicians to practice skills will be demonstrated.

More information about the conference, including cost and registration, is available online.
