Penn College Announces Donation of Vehicles by FedEx Freight

Five trucks – four Volvos and a Kenworth, all in the 2003-08 model-year range – have been added to the instructional fleet in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s diesel equipment technology program through ongoing support from FedEx Freight.
“The donation of these additional trucks will offer the ability to rotate newer technology into our program, exposing students to current engine, drivetrain, electrical and electronic systems,” said Mark E. Sones, a diesel equipment technology faculty member at the college’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center. “These vehicles bring to the program real-world component and system wear so that we may offer students hands-on training in reconditioning and maintenance practices best applied to the situation. This is a priceless component of technical education.”
The donations, along with a Volvo truck delivered in May, were facilitated by Greg A. Moser, an alumnus of Penn College who majored in diesel technology (Mack emphasis) and is now a district fleet maintenance manager for FedEx Freight.
Assistance from FedEx isn’t limited to vehicle donations. Moser is a member of the college’s Diesel Technology Advisory Committee and facilitated a working partnership with Cameron K. Graham, senior regional fleet maintenance manager, who connected diesel faculty and students to training and certification opportunities.
“This level of support from industry leaders like FedEx allows Penn College to maintain the highest standards in commercial truck education,” Sones said.
Among its varied majors, Penn College’s School of Transportation & Natural Resources Technologies offers an associate degree in diesel technology and a certificate in diesel technician. For more information, call 570-327-4516.
