'Dream Week' Guest to Facilitate Discussion, Deliver Keynote Address
Tuesday, January 17, 2017
The president and founder of a multicultural organizational development firm, a self-described "instrument of change," will be the keynote speaker as Pennsylvania College of Technology continues its Dream Week reflections on the contributions of Martin Luther King Jr.
"The Content of Our Character: Doing the Work to Live Out the Dream of Inclusion" will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday by Jamie Washington, whose Baltimore-based Washington Consulting Group has been named one of the Top 10 Global Diversity Consultants in the world. The presentation, free and open to the public, will be in Penn College's Klump Academic Center Auditorium.
Forty-nine years after King's death, the speaker will share his thoughts on important questions of the day: How far have we come? What does the work of inclusion look like in 2017 and how do we know if we are doing our part? What kind of person do we need to be to live into the dream of inclusion for the future?
Earlier in the day, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Bush Campus Center, he will conduct a professional-development session on "Leadership and Diversity in the 21st Century," helping campus employees and student leaders to understand the role of higher education in engaging others "within, across and about difference."
Washington earned a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University, two master's degrees from Indiana University-Bloomington, a doctorate in college student development from the University of Maryland-College Park and a Masters of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity. An award-winning educator, administrator and consultant for more than 32 years, he also serves as president and founder of the Social Justice Training Institute.
This year’s observance also included a Peace Walk and Day of Service, and community events centered around empowerment and nonviolence.
