A Pennsylvania College of Technology student is one of seven nationwide recipients of a scholarship from the Plastics Pioneers Association.

The nonprofit, membership organization awarded a $3,000 scholarship to Logan A. Tate, of Williamsport, for his commitment to becoming a hands-on professional in the plastics industry as a technician or engineer.

Logan A. TateTate, who is seeking a bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology, is president of the college’s chapter of the Society of Plastics Engineers. He also works as a student researcher for the Plastics Innovation & Resource Center at the college. A Dean’s List student, Tate has participated in several plastics-industry conferences and events.

“Logan is very deserving of the scholarship,” said Timothy E. Weston, associate professor of plastics and polymer technology and department head. “He is an outstanding student, and he shows on a daily basis that he is dedicated to a future career in plastics. Considering that our plastics graduates have a nearly 100 percent job-placement rate, Logan has much to look forward to.”

Penn College is among just a handful of institutions nationwide with plastics degrees that are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. In addition to the bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology, the college offers an associate degree in plastics and polymer technology.
