Sparked by the offensive play of junior Hailee Hartman, who had five goals, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s soccer team put together a 2-1 week and stayed unbeaten in North Eastern Athletic Conference action.
At Alfred University in nonconference play on Wednesday, Alfred made a goal scored at 13:23 stand up for a 1-0 Penn College loss. Alfred led in shots on goal, 17-7 (10-1 on goal), and in corner kicks, 5-2.
Playing at Wilson College in NEAC action on Saturday, Penn College rebounded with a 5-0 win and snapped a two-match loss streak. Hartman, of Lampeter, led the Wildcats’ offense with two goals as Penn College dominated in shots, 28-1 (22-0 on goal), and in corner kicks, 13-0.
Wrapping up its week on Sunday, Penn College got three goals and an assist from Hartman and a goal and an assist from Jane Herman, of Greencastle, in a 6-1 NEAC win at Gallaudet University that upped the team’s overall record to 5-3-1 and kept it unbeaten in the conference at 4-0. On Tuesday, it was announced that Wildcat freshman Josh Velez, of Lewistown, was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Runner of the Week after he finished fifth among 79 runners Sept. 17 with a time of 29:39 at the 8K Penn State Abington Invitational.
On Thursday at the Lancaster Bible Invitational, the men’s team ended 10th in an 11-team field and the women last among 10 teams. Velez led the men’s squad with a time of 35:45 in an 8K race, good for 54th place, and Thomas Runner, of Elkridge, Maryland, was right behind in 55th. Kylee Kalnas, of Easton, topped the Penn College women in a 6K race in 38:26.
Back in action Saturday at the Lock Haven Open, the Penn College men placed 13th in a 15-team field and the women last among 18 teams. Velez led the men with a time of 27:30 over an 8K course and was 48th among individuals while Runner turned in a 28:31 and was 93rd. For the Penn College women, Annika Miller, of Lancaster, was 187th over a 6K course with a time of 29:34.

On Tuesday at the Elizabethtown College Invitational, played on the Hershey Country Club East course, the Wildcats ended 13th in a 19-team field with a 326 score. Messiah won the team competition with a 292.
