Thirty-two Penn College students were honored Tuesday evening as the latest Awesome Women Exemplars during Student Activities’ 11th annual reception. Held in the Mountain Laurel Room of the Thompson Professional Development Center, the event included a welcome by Kimberly R. Cassel, director of student activities, and a keynote address by Jennifer D. Wilson, president and CEO of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. In her highly personal and inspiring message, Wilson discussed being a “cancer thriver” (her preferred affirmation over "cancer survivor") and offered pointers on confidence, compassion and paying it forward. The speaker also discussed the importance of female mentors and supporters, and mentioned her own inspirational advisers from family members to teachers to professional colleagues including her high school Spanish teacher, Jennifer C. Yeager, a part-time teacher of Spanish and French at Penn College, and Davie Jane Gilmour, college president and former board chair of the FCFPA Foundation.
