Playing all of their games in North Eastern Athletic Conference action last week, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams went a combined 0-4. The regular season concludes this week as each team plays four games, with their finales on Saturday at Bardo Gymnasium. Wildcat wrestlers also close out their season Saturday, at Muhlenberg College.
Men’s Basketball
In a high-scoring game last Sunday at Cazenovia College, the Wildcats lost, 98-84. Kevin Laurence-El, of Milton, pumped in 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Penn College while Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, and Joe Mangiero, of Staten Island, New York, each scored 16 points; Landon Muller, of Ottsville, had 11; and Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, 10.
On Saturday at home against Wells College, Penn College fell, 85-59, to drop to 3-11 in the NEAC and 3-17 overall. Ross finished the game with 22 points and Laurence-El 18.
Through Saturday in the NEAC South Division, Lancaster Bible was 15-0; Gallaudet, 11-3; Penn State Berks, 7-8; Bryn Athyn, 5-10; Penn State Abington, 5-10; Penn College, 3-11; and Wilson College, 3-12. Morrisville State led the North Division with a 12-3 record.
Women’s Basketball
Entering this season, the only name in the 1,000-point career scoring club for the Penn College women was “Steer,” as Jamie, a senior from South Williamsport, reached that mark last season and her older sister, Kierstin, did so during 2012-13. At Cazenovia College last Sunday, junior Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, joined the elite by scoring the 25 points she needed to reach that plateau. Jamie Steer led the Wildcats with 28 points, but their effort wasn’t enough in a 93-75 loss. Steer also grabbed 13 rebounds.
Hosting Wells College on Saturday, Penn College lost, 104-60, to drop to 3-13 in the conference and 3-15 overall. Ross led Penn College scorers with 30 points and Steer added 17.
Through Saturday in the NEAC South Division, Lancaster Bible College was 15-1; Bryn Athyn, 11-6; Gallaudet, 10-6; Penn State Abington, 10-6; St. Elizabeth, 9-8; Penn State Berks, 4-12; Penn College, 3-13; and Wilson College, 0-17. SUNY Poly topped the North Division with a 14-2 record.
