Penn College Student Among Farm Show Scholarship Recipients

A student in the baking and pastry arts major at Pennsylvania College of Technology was awarded a $3,500 scholarship from the Pennsylvania Farm Show Scholarship Foundation.


Paige E. Pearson, of Williamsburg, was among 28 Farm Show Scholarship recipients. Her award was presented Jan. 12 at the Farm Show by Scott Sechler, owner of Bell & Evans, and Pennsylvania Rep. Judy Ward, R-Blair County.

Recipients are chosen based on Farm Show participation and volunteerism, academics, financial need, 4-H and FFA involvement, and community service.

Pearson has served as president and vice president of the Blair County Lamb Chops 4-H Club and as president, secretary and treasurer of the Williamsburg FFA Chapter. At the Farm Show, she has exhibited market hogs and market lambs. At Penn College, she is a peer mentor for the Hospitality Living Learning Community.

“This is truly an investment in the future of the agriculture industry,” said Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding during the scholarship presentation. “As each of you continue throughout your college and professional careers, the skills you have acquired through your involvement within the Farm Show, 4-H and FFA will carry you to find success. Thank you all for your leadership and dedication to the agriculture industry.”

In addition to the scholarship award, each recipient received a $1,000 certificate from Barbizon to attend professional development workshops to help them prepare for interviews, speeches and professional careers.
