During a busy week with three teams seeing action, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team came away with the lone victory.
Women’s Basketball
With Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, recording her first career triple-double of 41 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, and the first for the college, the Lady Wildcats opened the week on Jan. 10 with a 93-69 North Eastern Athletic Conference win at Wilson College. In addition for Penn College, Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, scored 19 points and Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, added 18 points and 15 rebounds. Ross’s 41 points is the most by a Penn College women’s player since Katelyn Stupar ripped the cords for 43 during the 2005-06 season.
At Penn State Abington on Wednesday, Penn College lost, 96-56. Ross scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats while Mowery and Marissa Keegan, of Wilkes-Barre, each scored 12 points. Penn College led 5-3 early before the home team pulled away.
Closing out their week on Saturday at St. Elizabeth, the Wildcats dropped an 86-54 decision to fall to 3-5 in the NEAC and 3-7 overall. Ross scored 24 points while Steer ended with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Mowery 10 points. Steer’s career scoring total now stands at 1,213 points, 33 shy of the Penn College women’s record held by her older sister, Kierstin.
For her outstanding play during the period of Jan. 3-10, Ross was named the NEAC Player of the Week. Her triple-double was the 11th triple-double performance of the season across all of NCAA Division III and the first in program history for the Wildcats. Ross concluded the week with averages of 23.8 points, eight assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line.
In the NEAC South Division standings through Saturday, Lancaster Bible leads at 5-1 followed by Bryn Athyn and Gallaudet both at 5-2; Penn State Abington, 4-2; St. Elizabeth, 5-3; Penn College, 3-5; Penn State Berks, 0-5; and Wilson, 0-7. SUNY Poly leads the North at 4-0.

In a closely contested game on Jan. 10 at Wilson College, Penn College fell, 75-70. After falling behind by 11 early, the Wildcats tied the score at 20-all midway through the first half and went ahead briefly before trailing by eight at the intermission. Wilson opened a 12-point lead in the second half before the Wildcats cut it to two with 1:46 remaining and lost by five. Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, led Penn College with 19 points while Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, scored 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Bryce Lonsway, of Tiffin, Ohio, added 11 points.
On the road Wednesday, the Wildcats dropped an 87-82 decision at Penn State Abington to fall to 2-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Four Penn College players scored in double digits, led by Kevin Laurence-El, of Milton, with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Delgado added 16 points, Lonsway 14 and Landon Muller, of Ottsville, 13. Much of the first half was close until Abington opened it up a bit by halftime. The Wildcats closed to within two in the second half before losing by five.
Through Saturday in the NEAC South standings, Lancaster Bible was 6-0; Penn State Berks, 3-1; Gallaudet, 3-2; Penn State Abington, 3-3; Penn College, 2-5; and Wilson and Bryn Athyn, both 1-4. SUNY Poly leads the North with a 4-0 mark.

Trailing 14-0 after the first three bouts, the Wildcats got all of their points with wins in three of the next four matches as Mason Replogle, of New Enterprise, won a major decision in the 149-pound weight class; Tanner Leid, of Terre Hill, won by decision at 157; and Dan Frankenfield, of Dushore, won by decision at 174.
On Saturday at the Gettysburg Duals, Penn College lost to the host team, 43-9, and to Messiah (ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division III), 52-6, to drop to 5-7 overall. Leid, at 157, won both of his matches by pin while Frankenfield won on a decision at 174 against Gettysburg to account for all of the Wildcats’ points.
Also during the week it was announced that Replogle was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week for the period of Jan. 3-10. Replogle went 3-0 at the Penn State Mont Alto Holiday Duals with all wins coming on falls as he improved his record to 10-5, with nine pins.
