Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams went a combined 0-3 last week and the wrestling team lost its lone match.

Men’s Basketball
On Tuesday at Shenandoah University, the Wildcats opened a 36-35 halftime lead and went on top by nine at 60-51 with 8:35 remaining before the home team outscored Penn College 24-11 the rest of the way for a 75-71 win. Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, led the Wildcats with 25 points, including 7 of 9 3-point shots, while Kevin Laurence-El, of Milton, scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Shenandoah held a 26-6 advantage in bench points.

Closing out the week on Friday at home against Cairn University, Penn College dropped to 0-3 on the season after a 74-66 loss that was similar to Tuesday’s game. The Wildcats led 34-30 at halftime and opened a nine-point lead with 13:43 left in the game before being outscored 35-18 the rest of the way. Laurence-El topped the Penn College offense with 24 points and was followed in scoring by Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, with 20 points and Ross with 14. Ross also had 10 rebounds. For the game, Cairn got 36 bench points to three for Penn College and the visitors scored 19 points off 18 Wildcat turnovers.

Women’s Basketball
In their season opener on Saturday at crosstown rival Lycoming College, the Wildcats lost, 69-50, giving Lycoming a 15-1 lead in the series that dates to 1978. Lycoming opened a 12-2 lead at the start before Penn College battled back to within two points at 14-12. Another burst put Lycoming ahead 29-15 at the half and it maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.  For Penn College, Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, added 11 points.

Wrestling
Five Penn College wrestlers tasted individual victory, but it was the five losses – two of them by forfeit – that proved costly in a 30-22 home loss to Alfred State on Tuesday night that dropped the team’s record to 1-2. For the Wildcats, Tanner Leid, of Terre Hill, at 165 pounds, and Mason Replogle, of New Enterprise, at 149, recorded falls while Dan Frankenfield, of Dushore, at 184, won by major decision and Ron Smith, of Belleville, New Jersey, at 141, and Connor Route, of Canton, at 197, won decisions – with Smith’s coming in overtime.

Archery
Also during the week, seven Penn College archers were named to the USA Archery Academic All-American team. The team is composed of the Top 10 archers in each Division and Class based on the following criteria:

  • Archer must have been eligible to shoot in the 2015 spring semester, meaning they were enrolled as a full-time student.

  • Required cumulative GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate students and 3.5 for graduate students through fall semester 2014.

  • USA Archery then takes the top 25 percent (ranked by score) of each division and class from U.S. Indoor Nationals.

Archers then are ranked by their GPAs.

Kendel Baier, of Jersey Shore; Courtney Deshong, of McConnellsburg; and Nicole Lapinski, of Bloomsburg, earned the honors for the women's team. Baier and Lapinski were also two-time Academic All-American selections when the Wildcats competed in the USCA.

Tyler Schoonover, of Bradford; Matthew Cummings, of Mountville; Markus Weber, of La Plata, Maryland; and Gregg Foust, of Murrysville, were honored on the men's team. It was the third Academic All-American honor for both Cummings and Weber, while Foust earned the honor for the second time in his career.

Penn College archers compete during the spring semester.
