Congressman Among Panelists for Foreign-Policy Roundtable

Thursday, October 29, 2015

U.S. Rep. Tom Marino will be among the panelists for “The Future of American Foreign Policy,” the latest in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s series of topical roundtable discussions, to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Joining him in the free, public event, which is scheduled for Penn’s Inn on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center, will be David Mitchell, associate professor of political science and international relations and co-chair of the department of international relations at Bucknell University, and Caroline Payne, assistant professor of political science and coordinator of international studies at Lycoming College.

The moderator will be Craig A. Miller, assistant professor of history/political science at Penn College.

Miller started the informal discussions about two years ago with a two-fold goal: offer students the opportunity to engage intellectually outside the classroom, and allow faculty and professionals from across the region to share insights from their specialties. Past topics include the Second Amendment, National Security Agency surveillance and the future of spaceflight.

The format is essentially for panelists to respond to three questions, as well as follow-ups from the moderator and input from the audience. November’s discussion will ask: What is the proper role for America in 21st-century international affairs? Is it possible/desirable to have a coherent, consistent foreign policy? What are the biggest challenges facing the international community, now and in the future, and what is America's role in mitigating those challenges?

Marino – a 10th District Republican who serves on the House Homeland Security, Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees – is a 1983 graduate of Penn College’s forerunner, Williamsport Area Community College, as well as Lycoming College and Dickinson School of Law.

Light refreshments will be served at the roundtable, which is sponsored by the college’s Student Activities Office.
