WELLSBORO – Growing healthy communities means cultivating good health habits and excellent health care providers. Access to high quality education is key to a successful health career, and the Laurel Health Foundation is dedicated to helping local students reach their career goals.
Pennsylvania College of Technology has played a vital role in local health education in the Northern Tier since 1983 through program development and occupational training. Its medical assistant, phlebotomy and practical nursing programs meet rigorous national standards for accreditation and certification.
“We are dedicated to delivering excellent health care courses in rural areas through well-qualified administration and faculty,” explains Shannon Munro, Executive Director of Workforce Development and Continuing Education. “This Laurel Health Foundation grant supports our program budget and cuts down on operational costs, which has allowed Penn College to continue providing these vital education services at our Wellsboro Area School District location. We are so grateful for the support.”
Through the Wellsboro Community Foundation, Penn College was able to apply for a Laurel Health Foundation (LHF) grant to offset operating costs and purchase needed medical teaching supplies. The campus received a two-year grant donation of $32,810 and $38,810 respectively, receiving the second installment this summer.
“The Laurel Health Foundation’s mission is to enhance access to health care by supporting the provision and delivery of healthcare services in Tioga County, including excellent local health career programs like those at Penn College,” explains Ron Butler, LHF President.
