Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Off-Campus Living and Commuter Services Office welcomes four student leaders who will spend the year guiding their peers renting from landlords off-campus and commuting from home.
Two commuter assistants and two community assistants provide a strong link between college administration and their fellow students, and they inform their peers about campus resources by offering social and educational programs throughout the year.
The 2015-16 commuter assistants are Max C. Bower, of Lewisberry, heavy construction equipment technology: operator emphasis, and Morgan N. Keyser, of Dillsburg, graphic design. This is Keyser’s second year serving as a commuter assistant.
The community assistants are Josiah D. Stoltzfus, of Morgantown, construction management, and Ashley N. Irish, of Stroudsburg, applied human services and a 2015 human services graduate.
“We have a stellar group of students this year, all who carry a genuine desire to help their peers,” said Katie L. Mackey, coordinator of off-campus living and commuter services. “I’m certain we are in for an accomplished year with these four talented, focused and driven student leaders.”
The CAs began their training sessions on Aug. 10 with educational sessions related to college resources. They also engaged in a lesson in teamwork and leadership by completing a high-ropes course at Camp Karoondinha in Millmont.
During the first week of classes for Penn College’s 2015-16 academic year, the CAs are joined by the Off-Campus Housing Organization and Penn College Police for their annual “Walk Around” event, going door-to-door to welcome students to the off-campus neighborhood.
The CAs will also continue the commuter tradition of making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the commuter lounge on the first floor of the Bush Campus Center.
Throughout the academic year, the CAs will offer specialty programs focused on alcohol awareness, health and fitness, community service, and marketing resources provided by the college to off-campus and commuter students.
