Reed Named Interim Dean at Penn College

Pennsylvania College of Technology has named Michael J. Reed interim dean of sciences, humanities and visual communications.

Reed, who has more than 20 years of leadership, teaching and counseling experience, previously served as assistant dean in the School of Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications, working collaboratively with the mathematics, natural sciences and communications faculty.



Michael J. ReedPrior to joining Penn College, Reed, a Pittsburgh native, was head principal at Williamsport Area High School and director of SciTech High School, a STEM magnet school partnering with Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.

“We are very pleased Mike Reed has agreed to lead Sciences, Humanities & Visual Communications,” said Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs/provost. “Mike brings a strong commitment to collaborative leadership that fits perfectly with the faculty and staff in his school. He works exceedingly well with his colleagues across campus. With the leadership team he has in place, Mike will do great work.”

Reed completed his doctoral studies through Drexel University with a concentration in educational leadership, focusing on innovation, sustainable systems and evidence-based professional development models. He completed his master’s degree and school counseling certification at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his school administrative certifications were awarded through The Pennsylvania State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education through Clarion University.

As a volunteer, Reed serves as vice president on The Salvation Army executive board, provides mentorship and professional development to K-12 leadership teams throughout the state, and assists multiple youth-development programs throughout the Williamsport community.
