Wednesday, July 29, 2015

Carl L. Shaner, director of College Health Services at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been elected to a three-year term on the Northeastern Pennsylvania Red Cross Blood Region Advisory Board.

Carl L. ShanerHis duties will include championing the American Red Cross Blood Services mission by bringing community issues and perspectives to regional management; assisting in developing a strategic plan related to the recruitment and retention of volunteers, blood drive sponsors, and customers; and supporting development of an integrated marketing plan for all services provided by the American Red Cross.

Shaner is responsible for setting the institution’s precedent as an active Red Cross sponsor. He has spearheaded the success of campus blood drives over the past 13 years, during which more than 900 gallons have been donated by students, faculty and staff.

He also helped sponsor the Red Cross Blood Services High School Kickoff Event, open to all area high schools to help students develop programs and learn about methods and opportunities to reinforce school resources and their own civic connection.

“It is an honor to serve our community through the American Red Cross,” said Shaner, who has been a dedicated Red Cross donor, volunteer and educator for more than a decade. “I want to see others make a commitment to donate blood, every eight weeks, to help save lives.”
