'Penn College Awards' Honor Dazzling Dozen From Class of '15

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Twelve leading members of the Class of 2015 were honored at Thursday’s Penn College Awards banquet at Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, an annual celebration of the outstanding students who help shape their world through service to community, campus and peers.

“Penn College is a great place because of students like you. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for your service to the college and the community,” said Bradley M. Webb, director of student affairs administration. "And thank you for enriching the lives of your fellow students.”

Plaques in hand, this year's recipients of Penn College Awards pose for photos outside Le Jeune Chef.President Davie Jane Gilmour, who welcomed attendees and presented each student with a commemorative lapel pin, shared a quote from Estee Lauder that she saw reproduced on a graduate's mortarboard in August: "I never dreamed about success. I worked for it!" The students honored on the eve of commencement all embodied that philosophy during their Penn College years, compiling a collective exhibit of volunteer activities and helping hands that – like their academic achievement – did not go unnoticed.

It also did not elude those who accompanied the honorees to center stage; in an unsurprising mix of tears, humor and gratitude, presenters punctuated the evening with countless anecdotes and examples of the varied ways in which the students touched the lives in their orbit.
