Roger D. Jarrett, a successful businessman, community volunteer and alumnus of Pennsylvania College of Technology predecessor institution Williamsport Area Community College, received an Alumni of the Year Award at the 14th annual Education Celebration hosted by the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
The event honors selected individuals nominated by their educational institutions and focuses on the positives that result from cooperation between local school districts, colleges and businesses. The Education Celebration was conducted March 5 at the Genetti Hotel in downtown Williamsport.
Jarrett graduated from WACC in 1973 with an associate degree in business management and continued his education at Shippensburg University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1975.
A Muncy resident, Jarrett is self-employed, owning several local businesses engaged in real estate development, rehabilitation and rentals. He has also been active for many years with a number of organizations throughout Lycoming County.
Jarrett is a member of the advisory board for Citizens & Northern Bank; serves on the investment committee of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania; is a member of Susquehanna Health’s Board of Directors for Muncy Valley Hospital; and serves on the Community Arts Center Board of Directors. He is vice chair of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and chair of its Economic Development Political Action Committee, and he is involved with the Industrial Properties Corp., assisting small businesses with their economic-development projects.
His previous community service includes serving on the boards of directors for the SEDA-Council of Governments Housing Development Corp. and the Eastern Lycoming YMCA, president and 28-year board member for the Lycoming County Planning Commission, and chairman for the Montgomery Area Development Corp. Jarrett is also a former vice president and member of the Muncy Masonic Lodge, former board member and member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, a former Cub Scout leader, and past president of his church council.
Jarrett and his wife of 30 years, Denise, are the parents of three children: Jocelyn, Monica and Ross.
The evening also included an Alumni of the Year Award presented by Lycoming College, Outstanding Educator and Student Recognition awards given to representatives of the nine Lycoming County school districts, and a special Business Partner in Education honor awarded to the Williamsport Crosscutters.
