Anderson Equipment Co. Boosts Support for Penn College Students

Monday, February 23, 2015

Anderson Equipment Co.Heavy construction equipment technology students at Pennsylvania College of Technology are benefiting from the ongoing generosity of the Anderson Equipment Co., which supplemented a recent equipment loan with the donation of an engine and other machine components.

Among the gifts from Anderson, a distributor of earthmoving and mobile equipment with 20 locations from Maine to West Virginia, was a 272-horsepower Komatsu WA470-6 engine.

“This is a great addition to our heavy equipment engine lab,” said Chris S. Weaver, a diesel equipment technology instructor in the college’s School of Transportation & Natural Resources Management. “Until now, we did not have an engine meeting Tier 3 emission requirements with common rail-fuel injection. Because of Anderson’s generous donation, we can expose our heavy equipment students to technology that is being used in the industry.”

“This donation matches the technology in the D37 bulldozer that Anderson loaned to the college in December,” Weaver said. “It gives the students a chance to disassemble the actual transmission and learn how it functions, then go to the live machine to perform testing and adjustments.”

Anderson’s involvement with Penn College extends to the Natural Resources Technologies Career Fair; several company representatives are scheduled to be on campus March 17 to recruit equipment-related students for dozens of internships and full-time employment opportunities.
