College’s Marketing Efforts Capture Three ‘CUPPIE’ Awards
Monday, February 9, 2015
Pennsylvania College of Technology has been honored with three awards in an annual competition sponsored by CUPRAP – The Association of Communicators in Education, including recognition of the institution’s 2014 Centennial celebration.
Public Relations & Marketing at Penn College earned a Gold CUPPIE in the Public Relations Feature Article category, a Gold in the Photography division and a Silver for the college's overall 100th-anniversary marketing campaign.
“Flying Start,” a story on building automation student Scott D. Hubler's foray into auto racing, was awarded the Gold CUPPIE in the Public Relations/Media Relations Feature Article category. Written by Tom Speicher, writer/video editor, the article appeared in the Fall 2014 issue of the college's One College Avenue magazine.
It was the second consecutive Gold for Speicher, who placed atop the same category in last year's competition.
The college’s other Gold CUPPIE was awarded for a photo taken by Marc T. Kaylor, a student photographer, at last February’s Centennial concert by the Grammy Award-winning band Switchfoot. Kaylor, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in aviation maintenance technology, is an aircraft technician with PMI Global Services Inc. in White Plains, New York.
Kaylor’s win marks the second straight year that a college photographer was honored in that category, which was inaugurated by CUPRAP in 2014.
The 2014 portion of the multiyear promotion of the college’s Centennial took second place in the PR Campaign, Special Event Promotion category. The milestone event encompassed a variety of campus and community activities and promotional pieces – including an hourlong documentary film complemented by the latest in a series of commemorative books – in which virtually every PRM employee had a hand.
“We are honored to once again be recognized by our peers with this trio of CUPPIE Awards,” said Joseph S. Yoder, associate vice president for public relations and marketing. “It’s always gratifying to see evidence that our efforts to publicize the college, a national leader in applied technology education, are well-received.”
The awards will be presented March 12 during CUPRAP’s 2015 Spring Conference in Hershey.
The organization’s nearly 350 members – from 100 institutions – work in public relations, media relations, marketing, publications, sports information, and Web and graphic design.
CUPRAP’s members come from private and public colleges and universities, junior colleges, community colleges, independent schools, as well as other organizations involved in higher education.
