Gerri F. Luke has been named dean of business and hospitality at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Luke had served as interim dean since July. Previously, she was a professor of business administration/management and marketing and received the Veronica M. Muzic Master Teacher Award, the highest level of recognition for a Penn College faculty member, in 2013. She joined the faculty in 2004.
“In Gerri’s brief tenure as interim dean, she immersed herself in gaining a comprehensive understanding of all facets of the School of Business & Hospitality,” said Paul L. Starkey, vice president for academic affairs/provost. “She brings great experience and a passion for student success to this leadership role. She has been an outstanding educator and will now be an outstanding leader.”
Luke holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Massachusetts; a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell; and a bachelor’s degree in English from Salem State College.
She has worked in higher education for more than 25 years. Previously, she was an administrator at Curry College, Milton, Massachusetts; Daniel Webster College, Nashua, New Hampshire; and Franklin Pierce University, Rindge, New Hampshire. She served as dean of graduate and continuing studies and served on the senior staff at each institution. While maintaining those leadership roles, Luke also taught part time at each of the colleges.
Luke was recognized by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs as doctorally qualified in the disciplines of management and marketing. She served as a regional officer for IACBE, as well as a member of an accrediting team for the organization.
Luke is an active contributor both in her community and on the Penn College campus. She has served on numerous college committees including as chair of College Council for Internal Governance, as well as a member of the Steering Committee for the Middle States Self-Assessment (and co-chair for one of the subcommittees).
Also at Penn College, she serves as adviser for the Lambda Nu Chapter of Delta Mu Delta, an international honor society for business programs. She was selected by students to deliver the David London My Last Words Lecture in 2009.
