Noncredit EMT Course to Be Offered at Choice of Locations
Tuesday, December 9, 2014
Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer a new 150-hour, noncredit Emergency Medical Technician course, beginning with the Spring 2015 semester.
The course, comprising 50 hours of streaming online lectures and 100 hours of face-to-face learning, will meet National Emergency Medical Services Educational Standards and Instructional Guidelines and prepare students for National Registry cognitive and psychomotor examinations at the EMT level.
The hands-on laboratory portion will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays, depending on the location. Students will be able to select one of four sites: the Lycoming Career & Technology Center in Hughesville, the Sullivan County Emergency Resource Communication Center in Laporte, Penn College’s main campus in Williamsport or Penn College at Wellsboro.
A “flipped” mastery learning model – employing Internet-based, streaming video education – will be used to deliver the course content. Students will watch pre-recorded videos that support understanding and reinforce key concepts. Practical learning includes case studies and skill drills, allowing students to apply their understanding to hands-on activities. Experiential learning during ambulance rotations affords “real-world” immersion into the environment of practice.
