After a slow start on Wednesday at home against Alfred State College, the Wildcats rallied for their first win of the season, 73-63.

“You know after Thanksgiving break, there is going to be some rust – scoring six points in the first 14 minutes of the game, you would hope the rust wasn’t that bad. But over the next 14 or 15 minutes, we scored 50 points, so it’s there,” observed Wildcats coach Chris Lemasters. “We just really need to stick with the basics and get really, really good with our base stuff and then we can continue to develop further.”

After trailing 24-6 with 6:39 left in the first half, Penn College started to click and moved ahead 57-43, going on to win by 10. Scoring in double digits for the Wildcats were Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, and Bruce Lonsway, of Tiffin, Ohio, with 14 points each; and Kevin Laurence-El, of Milton, and Joe Mangiero, of Staten Island, New York, with 13 each. Ezra Adams, of Muncy, hauled down 13 rebounds and Ross had 10 caroms.

At home again on Saturday in North Eastern Athletic Conference action against Wilson College, Penn College scored an 89-79 win to go to 1-1 in the conference and 2-5 overall. Trailing 40-35 at halftime, the Wildcats outscored Wilson 54-39 in the second half for the win. Three Penn College players recorded double-doubles as Laurence-El scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds, Adams scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds, and Ross scored 13 points and had 14 rebounds. Nathaniel Brown, of Philadelphia, added 21 points.  Penn College dominated the boards with a 58-39 advantage.

The Wildcats’ game at Elmira College, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed until Feb. 2. due to inclement weather, but at home on Saturday in NEAC action against Wilson College, they got a balanced scoring effort in an 85-47 victory that evened their conference log at 1-1 and left them with a 2-3 overall mark. Scoring in double figures for Penn College were Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, with 18 points; Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, with 17; Charesa Bova, of Beech Creek, with 15; and Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, and Hannah Schoenly, of Hamburg, both with 11.

Wrestling
In its home season finale, Penn College dropped a 40-10 decision to King’s College on Thursday to fall to 1-7. Trailing 15-0 through three bouts, Slade Storm, of New Oxford, got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a major decision in the 149-pound weight class. Over the last six bouts, only Dan Frankenfield, of Dushore, at 174, was able to win for Penn College, scoring a pin in 1:59. The Wildcats forfeited two bouts.
