Student Club to Host Walkathon to Help Individuals With Disabilities

Friday, October 24, 2014

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Occupational Therapy Assistant Club will host a walkathon on campus Oct. 30.

The walkathon is scheduled 5-9 p.m. and includes laps around the campus mall. Fifteen percent of the walk’s proceeds will be given to initiatives that support individuals with physical disabilities. The remainder will support activities by the Occupational Therapy Assistant Club.

Registration for the walkathon is $15 in advance or $20 on the day of the event. Participants can raise money for their registration – or go above – by asking friends and family to donate toward each lap they complete.

Sign-in for the walkathon will take place on the patio on the west side the college’s Bush Campus Center. To receive registration materials, email student organizers Brianna Boyance or Mary Kate Kelley.

Penn College offers an associate degree in occupational therapy assistant, which can be continued to a bachelor’s degree in applied health studies.

Occupational therapy provides opportunities to assist people facing challenges in everyday life. Occupational therapy assistants work in collaboration with supervising occupational therapists to serve individuals or groups who experience impairment or loss of activity or ability to participate fully in leisure, work and activities of daily living, helping them to restore their ability to do the things they need, want or are expected to do.
