Commuter/Off-Campus Student Leaders Off to Strong Start

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

The dawning of the Fall 2014 semester has been a busy one for Penn College's new off-campus living and commuter services student staff: Commuter Assistants Todd D. Robatin and Morgan N. Keyser and Community Assistants Lauren J. Crouse and Sarah Boyer.

The student staff arrived in early August and participated in five days of training, learning the ins and outs of their positions. Only four weeks into the semester, they have already excelled in assisting other students, providing outreach through the traditional Walk Around Event and creating several programs to engage the college's off-campus population.

Franek, an information technology: information assurance and security concentration major from Montoursville, recently celebrates "The Big 2-0" with personalized birthday sandwiches earlier this month.“It’s Peanut Butter Jelly Time,” a beloved campus tradition after only a few short years, takes place every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Commuter Lounge (first floor of the Bush Campus Center, just outside Wildcat Express).

“We try to come up with new ideas and have some fun to entertain the people in the lounge, including us!” said Keyser, a graphic design student from Cogan Station.

Boyer is a dental hygiene: health policy and administration concentration student from Great Mills, Maryland; Crouse, of Turbotville, is enrolled in applied human services; and Robatin is a health arts: practical nursing emphasis major from Selinsgrove.

The Community Assistants are also hard at work in the planning of “Late Night Munchies” on Sept. 18, Oct. 9 and Nov. 13 on the Klump Academic Center patio from 9-10 p.m. – a time set aside to gather on the street paralleling off-campus neighbors and to meet and greet one another.

"The caliber, enthusiasm and pure greatness of the CAs seem to get better with each passing year, and this year is no exception," said Katie L. Mackey, coordinator of off-campus living and commuter services. "I have a great team and I am already looking forward to celebrating their unique accomplishments come May!"
