Women’s soccer head coach John F. McNichol Jr. has named Kristen M. Gedon as the team’s new assistant coach for the 2014 season.
“I am very happy to add Kristen as a part of the coaching staff,” McNichol said. “She brings a great deal of experience from her time as a player at Misericordia and as a coach with local clubs. She has great energy and passion for the game of soccer and will be a great addition to our program and the Penn College community.”
“I am very excited about joining the Penn College coaching staff,” Gedon said. “I am looking forward to bringing my knowledge and love of the game to this group of women. I am also looking forward to being back into the competitive atmosphere of collegiate-level soccer.”
Gedon has been active in the soccer community working as a coach for local soccer clubs. She has been with the Soccer Training Network since 2007, working with many levels of athletes as well as developing, planning and conducting multiple practices a day for the program’s camps. In 2012, Gedon also coached the West Branch Soccer Club’s U12 team and has been involved with the organization’s summer camps since 2004.
Gedon attended Misericordia University, where she was a four-year member of the women’s soccer squad. Her defensive skills on the team led her to be named the Freedom Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in medical imaging/radiologic technologist.
A graduate of Central Mountain High School, she had a storied career on the women’s soccer team, helping it to a 2007 state semifinal appearance. Her efforts led her to be named First-Team, All-League, as well as the team’s MVP.
Outside of Penn College, Gedon works for the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a radiologic technologist.
