Noncredit Help for New Leaders Available Through Penn College

The Quick Start Leadership program, presented by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology, assists those launching their directorial careers using several common approaches.
Participants – who may have been selected for leadership positions based largely on technical skills – will learn to transition into their new roles with confidence, understand and develop their own style, communicate critical job information effectively, set clear expectations and provide feedback, and understand when to refer issues to legal or human resource professionals.
The program comprises two training sessions of five hours each and includes experiential activities that will help learners apply concepts to relevant workplace situations and facilitate leadership teams.
The sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 22 and 29 at the Center for Business & Workforce Development on the college’s main campus in Williamsport. The program can be customized and delivered at employer locations.
Instructor James Hoy is an experienced leader of project management, human resource management and manufacturing/operations management and has developed and delivered many leadership programs tailored to support operational strategy. He earned bachelor’s and master's degrees from Penn State, where he was also an 11-year faculty member in management development programs and services.
A Certified Project Management Professional and Certified Public Accountant (on inactive status), Hoy served in a variety of management positions prior to his Penn State employment. He has experience leading plantwide training and has facilitated continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing and nonmanufacturing areas.
