Five Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball players earned recognition as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its All-American and All-Academic Team award-winners for baseball Sunday evening with several pulling multiple honors.
All-American honors are based on athletic performance throughout the season and are voted on by the institutions of the USCAA. Junior Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) led the squad, being named First-Team All-American. He was an offensive and defensive standout, hitting .442 with a .542 on-base percentage as a leadoff hitter. He stole 20 bases and hit in 15 runners. On the mound, he racked up four saves with a 1.46 ERA and a .122 opposing batting average.
Being named Second-Team All-Americans were senior Josh Longsderff (Columbia) and junior Zachary Weil (Kutztown). Longsderff led the team and league wins on the mound with six and had a 3.35 ERA and a .206 opposing batting average. Weil was a power hitter for the team, totaling four home runs and 33 RBIs while batting .352 with a .580 slugging percentage.
Senior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga), named an Honorable Mention, rounded out the All-American selections. In the third spot, Buterbaugh hit .411 with 31 RBIs and a .496 on-base percentage. At second base, he committed only one error with 50 putouts and 52 assists.
The All-Academic team is comprised of student-athletes that have maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better. Earning a spot on the team were Zach and Cody Buterbaugh and junior James Scully III (Middletown, Del.)
