The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its All-American and All-Academic Team award-winners for softball Sunday evening. Five Pennsylvania College of Technology softball players earned honors, with freshman Jessica Gmerek (Bellefonte) being named an All-American Honorable Mention.
All-American honors are based on athletic performance throughout the season and are voted on by the institutions of the USCAA. Gmerek was an offensive standout in her rookie year, hitting .380 with 20 RBIs, two home runs and a .592 slugging percentage.
The All-Academic Team comprises student-athletes that have maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better. Earning spots on the team were sophomores Delaney Blubaugh (Waynesboro), Nicole Lo Furno (Glen Mills), Katie Kratzer (Lynch Station, Va.) and Rachael Shaeffer (Hampstead, Md.)
