The Pennsylvania College of Technology Athletics Department has named John F. McNichol Jr. as its new full-time women’s soccer coach starting in the 2014-15 academic year. The coaching position is the second of three to be moved to full-time status. McNichol brings a wealth of experience, having played and coached at the NCAA Division III level.
“We believe Coach McNichol is a great fit to continue building our women’s soccer program at Penn College,” said Scott E. Kennell, director of athletics. “Not only does he bring significant coaching experience but a proven record of success in recruiting, as well.”
McNichol comes to Penn College after serving as the assistant men’s soccer coach at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre. Since 2008, he has held the responsibility of recruiting, scouting and reports, and game and practice preparation for the program. He has also worked as the goalkeeper specialist. This past season, he helped the team win its conference championship and earn a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
“I am very excited to get started with the team and build upon the success that they have had,” McNichol said. “Being a part of the program as it transitions to a full member of NCAA Division III is a great challenge, as well as a great opportunity for all of the student-athletes to compete for NEAC and NCAA championships. I am very thankful to athletic director Scott Kennell and Penn College for giving me this opportunity and cannot wait to get started working towards making it a top program in the conference.”
McNichol, a native of West Chester, is a graduate of King’s College. A four-year letter winner for both men’s soccer and baseball, he graduated in 2008 with a degree in marketing and business administration.
