Penn College freshman Arika J. Stopper, of Williamsport, has been named the Penn State University Athletic Conference ‘Pitcher of the Week’ for the period ending April 6. In the team’s 6-0 win against Penn State Hazleton, Stopper – a health arts: practical nursing emphasis student – pitched a three-hit, complete-game shutout while striking out seven. This season, Stopper is 2-2 on the mound with a 4.44 era. She has totaled 17 strikeouts and has a .282 opposing team batting average. Stopper and the Lady Wildcats travel to Alfred (N.Y.) State College on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
