The student volleyball team came prepared to extend its streak to two; the staff/faculty challengers were ready to get back to their winning ways. Ultimately, intramural assistant Jeremy R. Bottorf said, the employee team couldn't overcome a slow start in the first match and the students prevailed 2-0 in the annual rivalry Tuesday night in Bardo Gym. Comprising the winning team were Ashley Martin, Jared Barch, Dan Jones, Tim Stasulli, Courtney Gernert and Danielle Lazore. They opened up the first set with a 22–3 lead until the staff/faculty made somewhat of a comeback before losing, 25-13. Determined to tie the match at one game each, the employee squad (Dan Warner, Kim Bolig, Monica Brown, Loralee Lindemuth, Chris Suzadail and Michael Richards) kept pace with the students in the second set and never trailed by more than four. It wasn’t until the score was 21-20 that the staff/faculty team took its first lead of the night. After scoring another point, the team held a 22-20 lead, Bottorf recapped, "but, like the warm weather on Sunday, all things must come to an end." The students scored five of the next six points to win the set, 25-23, and the match. Bottorf expressed gratitude to everyone who played in the game and to Cody Buterbaugh for officiating. The next student vs. staff/faculty event will be a slow-pitch softball game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Elm Park. The students are hoping to end a four-year losing streak to the staff/faculty team, which has also won six of the past seven games.
