Penn College Spring Sports Interrupted by Weather

Pennsylvania College of Technology spring sports athletes competed in just four of 12 scheduled events last week as Mother Nature ruled.



Baseball
Returning to action after an 11-day layoff and stepping up against NCAA Division II Mansfield University, the Wildcats fell by scores of 7-3 and 19-5 on Tuesday to go to 6-4 overall. In the first game, Zach Buterbaugh, of Conestoga, went 3 for 4 and scored three runs, In the second game, Cole Weachock, of Pottsville, had two hits including a three-run homer. Zach Buterbaugh now has 100 career hits with the Wildcats and his brother, Cody, has 111. Four late-week games were canceled or postponed because of weather, as were Sunday’s games at Penn State Scranton.

Men’s Tennis
Nathan Scott, of Canton, Conn., won at No. 1 singles and teamed with Jordan Rodgers, of Biglerville, at No. 1 doubles for both of Penn College’s wins in a 7-2 season-opening loss at Baptist Bible College on Tuesday.

The Wildcats leveled their season record at 1-1 on Thursday with an 8-1 home win over Keystone College. Scott won at No. 1 singles and teamed with Rodgers to win at No. 1 doubles. Other double winners for Penn College were Rodgers, who also won at No. 2 singles; Chris Morrin, of Morrisville, at No. 3 singles; James Jeffries, of Bedford, at No. 4 singles; and Morrin-Jeffries, at No. 2 doubles.

Softball
Penn College’s two doubleheaders were postponed due to bad weather.
