Penn College's Martial Arts Club traveled to Williamsburg, Va., this past weekend for a two-day karate camp. The College of William and Mary was the site of the East Coast Collegiate Karate Union camp, which (in addition to participants from Penn College and the host institution) included students from West Chester University, Drexel University, Bucknell University, Lycoming College and the University of Virginia. The camp was divided into three training sessions on Saturday and one on Sunday morning, followed by a tournament Sunday afternoon. Penn College was ably represented by Mathew D. Johnson, Alexander J. Hilton, Carlos A. Ramos-Sonera and Brayan S. Ramos. Hilton and Johnson placed second and third, respectively, in kata (forms) in the intermediate division. In their first collegiate competition, Ramos and Ramos-Sonera tied for third place in kumite (sparring). Although this was their last collegiate event of the semester, Penn College club members are working hard to prepare for their belt promotion on April 26 in the Field House.
