'Fantastic' Orchestra Performance Adds to College's Centennial Luster

Penn College sponsored Tuesday's Williamsport Symphony Orchestra concert, "Fantastic Tales," the latest event in the college's yearlong Centennial celebration. Welcoming the audience to the Community Arts Center was Dorothy J. Gerring, an associate professor of architectural technology and a longtime member of the symphony's viola section. Among the offerings on the evening's program, a musical nod to the art of storytelling, were Copland's "Billy the Kid" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherezade." Performers with a Penn College connection included Colin W. Williamson, dean of transportation and natural resources technologies, percussion – who is scheduled to appear with the Hershey Symphony Orchestra at New York's famed Carnegie Hall on April 22 – and violinist Leah N. Nason, a Loyalsock Township High School senior and daughter of Brad L. Nason, associate professor of mass communications and member of the WSO Board of Trustees. The younger Nason will be the featured violinist/soloist at the free Williamsport Symphony Youth Orchestra concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the arts center.
