Fourteen Honored as Penn College 'Athletes of the Week'

During the fall semester, 14 Pennsylvania College of Technology athletes were honored as Wildcat Athletes of the Week.



They are, for the period ending:

Sept. 1 – Freshman men's soccer player Malcolm Kane, of Ardsley, led the Wildcats to a 3-1 win in the team's opener against Alfred (N.Y.) State.  He recorded 10 saves in goal and recorded a .909 save percentage during the game, in which he faced 15 shots.

Sept. 8 – Junior women's soccer player Elizabeth Greis, of Pottsville, led the Lady Wildcats, scoring two goals (including the game-winner) in a 3-1 win over Baptist Bible College.

Sept. 15 – Senior golfer Alex Howe, of Lake Ariel, led the Wildcat golf team to a first-place finish after shooting an 80 on the par 72 White Deer Challenge Golf Course.

Sept. 23 – Junior volleyball player Courtney Gernert, of Palmyra, led the Lady Wildcats in a 2-0 week. Gernert totaled 25 kills, 10 service aces and 18 digs.

Sept. 29 – Senior men's soccer player Christopher Brennan, of New Hope, helped the Wildcats to 3-0 record, recording five goals and an assist. He scored two goals each against Penn State Mont Alto and Bryn Athyn College.

Oct. 6 – Sophomore women’s soccer forward Robyn Beddow, of Lancaster, led the Lady Wildcats with three goals and two assists for a total of eight points during a 2-1 week.  She scored two goals against Carlow University, including the game winner.

Oct. 13 – Junior golfer Corey Teeple, of Lake Ariel, led the Wildcats at the Penn State University Athletic Conference and United States Collegiate Athletic Association championships with rounds of 73 and 82 during the two-day tournament. He topped the PSUAC for the individual championship and placed 16th nationally. Teeple's 73 was the best score for any Penn College golfer during the season.

Oct. 20 – Junior Daniel Flynn, of Blairstown, N.J., led the Wildcats in the PSUAC Cross-Country Championship, placing fifth in the 8K race in a time of 30:59.  His finish also earned him First-Team All-Conference honors.  The Wildcats placed fourth as a team at the event.

Oct. 27 – Brennan was honored for the second time as he was named the PSUAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year and earned First-Team All-Conference honors.  For the season, Brennan scored 28 goals, leading the team and the PSUAC as well as ranking second in the USCAA.  He also led in points totaling 60 and added four assists.

Nov. 3 – Sophomore women's soccer player Laresa Paden, of Mifflintown, led the Lady Wildcats as they competed at the USCAA National Championships, placing in the top five and going 2-1 during the week.  Paden scored the game-winning penalty kick in the team's opener against No. 9 University of Maine-Machias and the team's first goal against No. 4 SUNY ESF to help it win, 2-1.

Nov. 10 – Flynn was honored a second time as, during the USCAA Cross-Country National Championships, he led the Wildcats running a 34:09 on the 8K course.  His efforts helped the team finish 18th. This season, Flynn was a standout, being named an All-Conference runner for finishing in the top 10 of the PSUAC.

Nov. 17 – Freshman men's basketball player Bryce Lonsway, of Tiffin, Ohio, averaged 15 points and five rebounds in two games at the season-opening Dutch Burch Tip-Off Tournament at Lycoming College.  His efforts earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Nov. 24 – Freshman men's basketball player Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, scored a total of 23 points, averaging a team-leading 11.5 points in two games.  He also grabbed 13 rebounds and shot an impressive 8 of 18 (.444) from 3-point range.

Dec. 1 – Freshman men's basketball player Vincent Mauck, of Beech Creek, led the team with 15 points and four assists against perennial USCAA powerhouse Rochester (Mich.) College.

Dec. 8 – Sophomore women's basketball player Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, averaged 11.8 points per game and totaled 16 assists and 19 rebounds during the team’s 1-3 week.  She led the Lady Wildcats against Penn State Schuylkill with 17 points as the team recorded its first win of the season.

Dec. 16 – Freshman wrestler Patrick Fitzgerald, of Port Royal, was honored as he leads the Wildcats with a 4-3 record and 14.75 points in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association 235-pound division. He is ranked No. 21 in the nation in his weight class.
