Thanksgiving Food Collection Fills Bins – and Community Need
Wednesday, November 20, 2013
Thirteen student organizations contributed nearly 500 units of food on Wednesday's final day of the monthlong "Stuff a Trailer" partnership between Penn College and Pepsi. A variety of canned goods and other nonperishables were dropped off in the Bush Campus Center lobby, then loaded onto a Pepsi truck to help bring a happier Thanksgiving to needy area families. The collection was moved indoors due to the autumn chill, which was partially offset by free cookies, hot cocoa and warm cider, and Pepsi giveaways. The Multicultural Society was the top donor (130 units) and will win a pizza party sponsored by the Student Activities Office and Pepsi, lanyards and T-shirts. The latter prizes also were awarded to the Physician Assistant Club, which finished second. Other student groups aiding the cause – all food collected will be distributed by The Salvation Army – were Phi Theta Kappa, the Health Information Association, the Society of Plastics Engineers, Enactus (previously Students in Free Enterprise), Students of Musical Development, the Student Nurses' Association, the U.S. Green Building Council Students of Penn College, Alpha Chi, the Penn College Construction Association, the American Welding Society and the Gamers' Guild. Their contributions will supplement items collected since Oct. 21 in bins across campus.
