WACC Alumna Recounts Multifaceted Career During Return to College

Rosemary D. Neidig recently returned to campus to share her inspiring story during a professional-development session for Classified employees at Penn College. Neidig was a nontraditional student when she enrolled at Williamsport Area Community College in 1975; two years later, she earned an associate degree in accounting that allowed her to move from a front-desk receptionist's position to become Lycoming County's first director of child support enforcement. She continued toward a master's degree while working full time and, after graduation from Lincoln University, was hired as the Williamsport YWCA's executive director. She was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly thereafter and, faced with a life-threatening illness, stepped away from organizational management in 1990 and became a self-employed businessperson, specializing in individual counseling for women. She closed her practice 22 years later and launched a new career as a freelance writer, publishing a memoir, "Every Two Minutes," in August.
