The golf and men’s and women’s soccer teams were unbeaten for Pennsylvania College of Technology this past week.

Penn College golfers stayed perfect as they won their fourth Penn State University Athletic Conference match of the season, topping a seven-team field in the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational on Thursday. Led by Alex Howe, of Lake Ariel, who shot an 82, Penn College totaled 345 strokes to second-place Penn State DuBois’ 356. Also for the Wildcats, Calvin Foust, of Palmyra, recorded an 86 while Nick Krupka, of Allentown, had an 87 and Bryce Petersheim, of Birdsboro, came in at 90.
Earlier last week, Foust, a sophomore, was named the PSUAC Golfer of the Week for the period ending Sept. 22. In the team’s only invitational of the week at Penn State Schuylkill, Foust led the Wildcats with a 79 to share medalist honors. Also, Howe and Foust are ranked among the Top 20 individuals in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association rankings, with Howe’s scoring average through three matches at 80.3 and Foust’s at 80.6.
Women’s Tennis
On Wednesday at Keystone College, the Wildcats lost, 5-4, with two of their matches forfeited. Melissa Stabley, of Cogan Station, won both her singles and doubles match (in doubles she teamed with Jenna Walmer, of Lebanon) while Taylor Pompili, of Renovo, and Brook Reed, of Hamburg, won in singles.
Returning to PSUAC play on Saturday against Penn State Brandywine, Penn College won, 3-2, with Stabley, Walmer and Taylor Lapointe, of Pelham, N.H., recording singles wins.
Lapointe won in singles and teamed with Pompili to win in doubles during a 3-2 loss to Penn State Mont Alto on Sunday as the Wildcats fell to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Men’s Soccer
Luke McFalls, of New Oxford, scored two goals to lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 win over Penn State Beaver on Tuesday. Penn College outshot Beaver, 42-6, but had a hard time finding the net with just 21 shots on goal.
In another sharp performance on Thursday, Chris Brennan, of New Hope, scored two goals as Penn College defeated Bryn Athyn College, 5-0. For the game, the Wildcats outshot Bryn Athyn, 20-2.
Closing out their 3-0 week on Saturday, the Wildcats downed Penn State Mont Alto, 10-0, to improve to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSUAC. McFalls and Ryan Miller, of Scranton, each scored two goals and goalkeeper David Munn recorded the shutout.
Women’s Soccer
Madilyn Walters, of Lewistown; Sadie Bebko, of Allegany, N.Y.; and Kelsea Robbins, of Milton, each scored two goals to help the Lady Wildcats to an 11-0 victory over Penn State Beaver on Tuesday. In a dominating start, Penn College scored nine goals in the first half, including four in the first 10 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Colleen Bowes, of Wayne, recorded the shutout. Penn College took 41 shots to just one for Beaver.
The Wildcats closed out the week with a 2-1 overtime win Saturday over Chatham University to go to 4-3 on the season. Devon Suhadolnik, of Carbondale, scored the match-winner in the 94th minute. Penn College took 28 shots to just four for Chatham. Walters scored the Wildcats’ first goal in the 47th minute.
Cross-Country
Fielding a full men’s team for the first time in three weeks, Penn College finished third at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational. Dan Flynn, of Blairstown, N.J., finished fifth for the Wildcats in 29:29 over the 8K course. Also in the Top 10 for the Wildcats was Nathan Mashack, of Bloomsburg, who was 10th in 31:24.
Women’s Volleyball
Penn College dominated Penn State Wilkes-Barre, recording 27 service aces during a 25-6, 25-4, 25-6 win Monday. Courtney Gernert, of Palmyra, led with 14 aces and added four kills while Catie Aviles, of Robesonia, had five aces and eight assists and Loralee Lindemuth, of Tidioute, led the team with six kills and recorded three aces.
On Thursday at Penn State Hazleton, Penn College committed 38 errors and lost, 19-25, 13-25, 18-25. Gernert led with 14 kills and seven digs. Also for the Lady Wildcats, Aviles had 15 assists and Rachel Heller, of Allison Park, had 15 digs.
Friday, on the opening night of the Lycoming College Classic, Penn College lost to Misericordia University, 16-25, 14-25, 12-25, and lost to Elmira (N.Y.) College, 8-25, 8-25, 15-25. Misericordia recorded 30 kills and Elmira 38 against the Wildcats.
Wrapping up play in the classic on Saturday, Penn College fell to Ithaca (N.Y.) College, 14-25, 9-25, 14-25, and fell to Lycoming College, 15-25, 18-25, 19-25, to drop to 4-13 on the season. Gernert finished a strong tourney with 49 kills and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Also last week, Aviles was named the PSUAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 22. In the team’s 2-0 week, Aviles led the Lady Wildcats with 29 assists, eight digs, four kills and two service aces.
