Tie-Dyeing Event Kicks Off College's 'Pink Out' Observance
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
In the first of this year's "Pink Out" events reflecting October's designation as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, students and employees brought T-shirts to an area behind the Field House to be appropriately tie-dyed Tuesday evening. After soaking in a solution of soda ash and water, the shirts were bunched, scrunched, folded, rolled and rubber-banded ... then squirted with hot-pink or fuchsia dye. The damp, tied shirts were then bagged and sent home with their owners ... along with instructions on final rinsing and washing. Fans are encouraged to wear those shirts (or whatever pink clothing they choose) to cheer on the women's volleyball team in its match against Elmira College, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Bardo Gym. There will be free pink cotton candy and a $100 giveaway to the "pinkest" person in attendance. "Pink Out" events are co-sponsored by the Off-Campus Housing Organization, Healthy Wildcats and the Athletics department.
