Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering a Team Leader/Supervisor Program this fall.

The research-based, instructor-led program is anchored around 32 competencies identified in industry clusters across the commonwealth. Specific sessions, dates and topics are:

Developing Self (Sept. 19 and 26): The changing role of the leader, developing your leadership style, fostering effective communications, and solving problems and making decisions.

Developing Others (Oct. 17 and 24): Recruiting and selecting employees, onboarding: orientation and skills training, setting expectations and providing feedback, and developing and coaching others.

Addressing Challenges (Nov. 14 and 21): Addressing performance deficiencies, leading through conflict in the workplace, the leader’s legal and ethical responsibilities, and supporting organizational change initiatives.

Creating Environment (Dec. 12 and 19): Creating a continuous improvement environment, building a culture of engagement and empowerment, and creating a high-performance work team. The session concludes with a leader’s forum/roundtable discussion.

A team of industry experts with a wealth of experience, led by Dan Manetta and Jim Hoy, facilitates the training.

Manetta has more than 25 years of professional experience with leadership positions in manufacturing, banking and the military. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Penn State and a master’s degree in business education from Bloomsburg University. His leadership training, in a wide range of organizations, has been recognized for excellence. He is a published author, keynote speaker and former U.S. Army captain, with experience in strategic planning, organizational development, green and lean manufacturing, process mapping, total quality management, ISO 9000, Six Sigma, procurement, and entrepreneurship.

Hoy is an experienced corporate trainer with more than 30 years of project management, continuous process improvement and financial management skills with a wide range of organizations. He earned both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting at Penn State. A Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Project Management Professional, Hoy developed and implemented programs for the former Penn State Management Development group.

All sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Center for Business & Workforce Development on Penn College’s main campus in Williamsport. The cost is $595 per series.

Participants may continue their training with the additional series offerings during the fall, spring and summer. The program allows participants the flexibility to take sessions in any sequence, and it may be customized for groups. A complementary leadership competency assessment is available for employers to help target the areas of greatest need for employees.
