Chemistry Faculty Member Invited to Speak at NSF Conference

A chemistry faculty member at Pennsylvania College of Technology served as an invited speaker at the National Science Foundation’s GK-12 Building Bridges: Capstone Conference in Lubbock, Texas.
Kelly B. Butzler, associate professor of chemistry, was among speakers invited to present a symposium titled “Flipping the Classroom in the STEM Disciplines.” STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.
The GK-12 Building Bridges program is funded by the NSF and pairs graduate students in science, engineering and math with K-12 science and math teachers to develop integrated math-science or math-engineering curriculum modules for use in K-12 schools.
Butzler, who writes a regular blog titled “Kelly’s 24-Hour Classroom” for Penn College faculty, is pursuing a doctoral degree in education, specializing in e-learning.
Butzler has taught at Penn College for 14 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Gettysburg College, as well as a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in organic chemistry from North Carolina State University.
