Two Pennsylvania College of Technology graphic design students recently won awards at the district level of the American Advertising Federation’s ADDY awards.
In the federation’s District 2 student competition, junior Erin M. Schlessinger, of Lock Haven, won a gold ADDY for her “FreeRice.com” ad campaign and a silver ADDY for her “Cocktails and Croquet” event invitation.
Michael A. Siemianowski, a senior from Oakmont, won a silver ADDY for his “TechnoServe” annual report.
Both students advanced to the district-level competition after winning gold in the Northeast Pennsylvania ADDY awards. District 2 of the American Advertising Federation includes schools and professionals from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
"It's great to see our students competing and winning at these levels,” said Nicholas L. Stephenson, instructor of graphic design. “In design classes at Penn College, we are teaching students to solve problems through an understanding of the client, audience and message.
“Being a great designer is about more than just making things look ‘nice’; it's about concept and how that concept is turned into something visual. All the pieces that won went beyond just a cursory understanding of the assignment; their design was built on an idea."
