Baier Women's Bowhunter Champion as Wildcat Archers Take Third Overall

At the United States Collegiate Archery Championships  in Cedar City, Utah, this past week, Pennsylvania College of Technology sophomore Kendel F. Baier (Jersey Shore) dominated women's bowhunter to take the national title in the individual competition.

Her efforts helped the Wildcat archery team take third overall behind winner Texas A&M and second-place James Madison University.  Baier took home all three major titles in her discipline, capturing first in the women's bowhunter team competition with sophomore Brianna D. Batykefer (Butler) and freshman Cayla Q. Easley (Carlisle), as well as in the mixed bowhunter competition with senior Joseph A. Dowdrick III (Lebanon).



Kendel F. BaierIn addition, the women's compound team of junior Ashley M. Baker (Coudersport) and sophomores Rebecca M. Boyer (Macungie) and Nicole E. Lapinski (Bloomsburg) came in second for the team competition.

Also for the Wildcats individually, Boyer came in second in women's compound and Lapinski fourth; Dowdrick was third in men's bowhunter and junior Kelvin R. Dewalt (Easton) fourth. Rounding out the top-place finishers were sophomore compound Justus K. Leimbach (Westminster, Md.) and freshman recurve Greggory A. Foust (Murrysville), who each placed eighth in their respective disciplines.

All-Americans were announced during the four-day tournament – Baier, Boyer, Dewalt, Dowdrick, Lapinski and Leimbach all earned the prestigious accolade.

This year, the USCA announced Best New Archer awards to those competitors who just learned the sport and started competing this year. Freshman Markus P. Weber (La Plata, Md.) was the men's compound best new archer, while freshman Katie N. Reitbauer (Shillington) was second-best new archer in women's recurve. Selected as third-best new archers in their respective categories were Easley, women's bowhunter; freshman Samantha L. Lantz (Ulster), women's recurve; and freshman Maxwell T. Trainor (Hawley), men's recurve.

Penn College was also outstanding off the field, placing seven on the USCA All-Academic team. Earning spots were Baier, Boyer, Dewalt, Dowdrick, Lapinski and sophomores Matthew G. Cummings (Mountville) and Jordan S. McGowan (Carlisle).
