"I have very, very fond memories of (Williamsport Technical Institute) and the (Williamsport Area) Community College," said David M. Heiney, who served as interim president of the latter from 1980-81. "I think it really gave a boost to my professional career." Although his administration was brief, Heiney's overall career at the college, including his years as a respected and innovative student affairs professional, coincided with the institution's growth on a number of levels. Among them was the focus on student activities and housing, helping to move WACC from a commuter campus to a more traditional college community, and his transitional assistance after President Robert L. Breuder was hired in a national search. Much more about his interim presidency can be found in “Legacy of Leaders,” the second volume in Penn College's Countdown to the Centennial series. The 120-page book, enhanced by videos and other material at the centennial website, is available for $9.95 from The College Store.
