Pennsylvania College of Technology teams posted five wins and three losses during the past week, including a 3-0 mark by the wrestling squad.
Wrestling
Tyler Myers, of Centre Hall, scored a pin in 43 seconds in the 157-pound weight class to improve his season record to 14-1 with 10 pins as Penn College beat Penn State Greater Allegheny, 39-16, on Tuesday to stay unbeaten in the Penn State University Athletic Conference with a 4-0 mark. Austin Clark, of Elysburg, won by fall at 165 and Daniel Frankenfield, of Dushore, decked his opponent at 174.
The Wildcats won both of their matches Saturday, topping Stony Brook (N.Y.) University, 40-9, and West Chester University, 41-15, to improve to 11-7 overall. Clark, at 133; Wade Jacobson, of Alexandria, Va., at 141; Tim Kuntz, of Wyalusing, at 149; Myers, at 157; Clark, at 165; Logan Gresock, of Copley, Ohio, at 174; and Alex Muller, of Sparta, N.J., at 197, all won both of their individual matches. Myers and Gresock each recorded two falls. Hart is 8-0 on the season.
Also during the week it was announced that Myers, now 16-1 overall with 12 pins, was named the PSUAC Wrestler of the Week.
Men's Basketball
On Monday at Penn State Lehigh Valley, the Wildcats won their second straight game as Jesse Newman, of Waterfall, scored 18 points, including 13 of 15 at the foul line, and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 69-65 victory. Christopher Carrington, of Ridley Park, also scored 18 points for Penn College as it opened a 36-23 halftime lead and held on at the finish.
Despite the fact that it had five players scoring in double digits, Penn College dropped a 105-76 decision at Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday. Newman scored 15 points for the Wildcats while Jesse Greenfield, of Wellsboro, had 14; Scott Fenton, of Dickson City, tallied 13; and Nathaniel Brown, of Philadelphia, and Carrington each added 11.
The Wildcats closed out a 1-2 week with a 78-63 loss to Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. Newman again led Penn College in scoring with 24 points. Penn State Wilkes-Barre held a 40-25 rebounding advantage as the Wildcats fell to 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the PSUAC.
Women's Basketball
A balanced offense, led by a 17-point, 11-rebound effort by Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, propelled Penn College to a 69-61 win at Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday. Mackenzie Brown, of Lititz, chipped in with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Jenna Matzinger, of Coudersport, had 16 points and Kierstin Steer, of South Williamsport, scored 10. The Wildcats held a 57-41 rebounding advantage.
Penn College again found offensive balance but its defense came up short in a 68-64 loss to Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. Jamie Steer scored 19 points; Dana Reed, of Sunbury, tallied 17; Brown had 11; and Kierstin Steer scored 10 before fouling out with about 12 minutes to play. The loss evened the team’s record at 7-7 overall. It is 4-3 in the conference and tied at the top of the North Division with Penn State Hazleton.
In the Week 8 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Coaches’ Poll, Penn College is ranked No. 13.
